Oral surgery refers to the treatment of the entire craniomaxillofacial complex, including the mouth, jaws, face, skull, head, and neck, as well as other tissues, by a regionally specialized surgeon.
The Dental Council of India has recognized oral and maxillofacial surgery, often known as OMFS, as a branch. The practice of head and neck cancer, facial cosmetic surgery, microvascular surgery, craniomaxillofacial trauma and cleft, and craniomaxillofacial surgery are all included in the scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery in India.
According to the American Association of Oral and Plastic Surgery, reconstructive surgery was founded in the early 1900s by a professional organization of oral medical professionals with intensive training and an interest in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
