Let's know why it is important to visit a dentist every 6 months
Tooth pain is the commonest cause of visit to a dentist. Many a times we find a patient report to us, with symptoms typical of a toothache and wanting fast relief. Upon a thorough oral examination, it is often found that tooth has largely gone decayed , and now, it is hardly salvageable. Hence, Bye Bye dear tooth!
The important thing to note here, is that tooth decay does not happen overnight. It is a slow ongoing bacterial process, occuring over a period of months altogether, many a times without the knowledge of the patient. Improper and irregular brushing habits coupled with an unhealthy diet are the main proponents of tooth decay. An activity which begins from a tiny black speck , gets ignored, and in turn starts to spread within the tooth, gradually edging towards the innermost core of the tooth, which is called the pulp.
What is the pulp?
The pulp chamber of a tooth, is analogous to the heart in a body. It safely accomodates all the nerves and blood vessels required to keep the tooth alive, gives it a sensation of hot and cold, nourishes the tooth, forms the tooth in infancy and has all the nutrients for repair as well. Thats how crucial the pulp is! Hence, it is heavily encased in hard barriers all around it, the dentin and the enamel, so that no irritant can reach inside. Oral bacteria have the ability to breakdown the hard tooth substance , thus putting the pulp at risk. With the defences gone, the pulp remains exposed and becomes a hub for bacterial activity thus leading to severe radiating pain and sleepless nights.
Now that you know all about the Pulp.. what can you do to prevent tooth ache?
Things we can do to prevent the traumatising event of a tooth ache-
> Brushing regularily , twice daily after food, once in the morning before breakfast and lastly before going to bed.
> Follow up brushing with flossing as well, for a wholesome cleaning process. Flossing flushes out those food remnants which the brush couldnt.
> Avoiding sugary and sticky food, especially at night, as well as, refined carbohydrates.
> Investing in a good mouthrinse/ mouthwash, to get rid of bad breath and maintain a good oral hygiene.
> Using a tongue scraper. Half the bacterial colonies reside on the tongue!
> Lastly, and most importantly, visit your dentist for a regular oral checkup every 4-6 months.
Dont wait for a toothache dictate your visit to a dentist!

The lower jaw may sometimes feel too far behind than the upper jaw or far too front of the upper jaw. Its for these disparities like these that one must visit the Orthodontist.
Periodontics
This branch deals with gum problems and their solutions. About 80% of the Indian population suffers from bleeding gums during brushing and bad breath, also known as halitosis. A routine teeth scaling or cleaning is needed once atleast every 6 months to restore gingival or gum health. Your dentist will let you know the correct way to properly brush teeth and keep those pearls shining.
Prosthodontics
Prostho- is derived from prosthesis, meaning some artificial augmentation. Thus, prosthodontics is that branch of dentistry which deals with replacing missing teeth with the help of artificial teeth to help the patient cope with his or her daily activities. A tooth might be lost due to multiple reasons, carious lesions, trauma, or congenital disorders. The artificial teeth can be removable or fixed, depending upon the requirement of the individual. Tooth implants can also serve as excellent replacements.
